A game that began to point downwards in the first quarter with several 3 and out situations, the Patriots kept their composure with all three quarterbacks splitting reps and put down the Panthers 19-17 in Charlotte last night. When Garoppolo played in the first quarter, they were forced to punt the ball away several times and then, the crowd erupted as Tom Brady entered the game to replace Jimmy G which led to a field goal by the Ghost himself (Stephen Gostkowski).
A bright spot for the Patriots last night came from the quarterback position and it was rookie Jacoby Brissett, who not only completed every single pass he attempted (9-9) but threw for 85 yards and a touchdown. Brissett, the third string quarterback, is a security blanket in case of Garoppolo goes down in the first 4 games and has all the tools to start at the helm in a few years.
As Brissett gains confidence as a rookie, old timer Tom Brady threw a touchdown in the end of the 1st quarter to newly signed wide receiver from Buffalo Chris Hogan for 33 yards to take the 9-0 lead and later on in the game, Brissett would throw the other touchdown to rookie RB D.J. Foster from the Carolina 12 to take the 16-3 lead.
Players who were yet consistent again were Trey Flowers, Tyler Gaffney, Aaron Dobson, and DeAndre Carter helped lead the Pats to a W in the preseason as next week, the Pats play their final game of the preseason against the Giants on Thursday, September 1st.
