Three solid games thus far into preseason for the Patriots has led to people believing that we can survive four games without Tom Brady. The preseason schedule ends tonight as the Pats travel to East Rutherford, NJ to face the New York Giants in the finale that should be intriguing to watch.
Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is the likely starter for this game as I would believe and fellow QB Jacoby Brissett could get some valuable time as he perfected on completions (9-9) and threw a touchdown to cap off a very good night from the rookie out of North Carolina State. What Garoppolo/Brissett have to be concerned about is the Giants secondary (Hall, Jenkins, Cromartie, etc.) which is full of talent but otherwise, it’s very likely the Patriots will pull out a win in New Jersey tonight.
From the defensive perspective, obviously there are some players that can breakout for the Giants. Odell Beckham Jr is the first name to come in mind as he is a legit WR1 option and has arguably the best hands in all of football. Next to Beckham, an emerging star is appearing in rookie wide receiver Sterling Shepard, who at the University of Oklahoma, was always gaining national attention. A slot receiver with quickness and quick steps to fool players for weeks, Shepard is a perfect complement to Beckham in this Giants system but it’s likely that there reps will be limited.
We will see how the secondary does and who in the Pats secondary will get valuable reps to hopefully earn a roster spot ( Coleman, LeBlanc, Roberts, etc.) in tonight’s game as this is the deciding factor for the roster trimmings along with the other high profile positions such as wide receiver and running back.
Go Pats!
