Pats vs. Jags Preview

The Patriots are back the Razor this week as they prepare to take on the Jags Sunday afternoon. The Jaguars are coming off of a huge 23-20 win over the dolphins last weekend, and the Patriots are also coming off of a big win over the Bills. This is a game the Patriots cannot take lightly as the Jags are known to surprise some teams.

Bill Belichick made it very clear he will not be taking this week’s game lightly as he said “We’ve spent quite a bit of time, obviously this week but even going back to last spring and through training camp, studying up on Jacksonville.” He also went on to say Jacksonville “is a good young team that’s really hungry and very talented, so we’re going to have to do a great job this week of knowing the personnel that we’re playing against because they do move players around to create matchups.”

Belichick was also asked about Jaguar rookie running back T.J. Yeldon. Yeldon had an impressive week last week as he took on a big work load going 25 rushes for 70 yards. Belichick had this to say about Yeldon: “They just kept giving him the ball. He ran hard. He’s a powerful guy. He’s got good speed, gets the ball outside, catches the ball. They use him some in the passing game, but he can carry the mail. He’s a big, strong, tough runner that has good vision, can get the ball downhill.”

And of course Brady is just one touchdown away from 400 career touchdown passes, but Belichick really doesn’t care about records he is really focused on beating Jacksonville. This is what Belichick had to say “Tom is a great player, we’ve all said that plenty of times, but I don’t really care about any records this week. We really need to beat Jacksonville.”

Brady a lot like Belichick is not taking this game lightly he said: “they’re a young, hungry team. And you’re right; every week has its different challenges. I think you battle different schemes and players and so forth every week, so it’s really just a matter of … They have the same amount of time to prepare as we do. It’s about maximizing that time and utilizing your energy and effort to get to know them and then to save up enough where you can go out on Sunday and win.”

Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley will have a challenge on Sunday covering Gronk. This question was brought up in his press conference the other day this is what he had to say: “That’s difficult. You see him have success against everybody so it’s just you pick and choose your battles. You know he’s going to get targeted, you know he’s going to have some catches and I think you’re trying to make sure it’s not explosive plays. That’s where you look at explosive plays that he’s had, how has he gotten them and he is very, very good in the red zone.”

It will be very interesting to see how the Patriots play after a near 4th quarter collapse last weekend. Let’s see if we can finish out 3-0 before going on the bye.
