While in Memphis Quincy turned up his game getting better defensively playing alongside guys like (G) Tony Allen, All-Star (G) Mike Conley & (F) Zach Randolph. He averaged 5.2 ppg while shooting 42% from the field & 33% from long-range in 168 games during a 4 year tenure with The Grizzlies.

The Pelicans obviously noticed him again this time trading (G) Russ Smith (to Memphis) and Austin Rivers (to Boston) for Quincy Pondexter. He had his best season as a pro once back with The Pells starting 28 of 45 games averaging 9.0 ppg shooting 45% from the field 43% from the 3 point-line while playing 28 mins a game.

The disaster hit as Pondexter went down with injuries that bench him for a 2 full seasons. It was reported that Q-Pond had several surgeries to repair damaged cartilage in his left knee.

He was quoted as saying: “It’s been unbelievable the last two years being hurt, and injured,” Pondexter told ABC30’s Tommy Tran. “We haven’t explained a lot, and a lot of that news will come out in the next few months about what’s happened and what’s transpired. But I’m working my tail off to get healthy and I’m looking forward to this next season and looking forward to redeeming the last two seasons that I’ve missed. I want to go out there and just play the game I love again.”

As you can tell Pondexter is ready for action this year & hoping for a lot of minutes in his final year (contract wise). The Outlook on Q-Pond is favorable because Solomon Hill is out for 6-8 months with a torn hamstring & Pondexter is the next man up preceded by Darius Miller. The Pelicans are sure to make a trade or sign a player with this recent development. By any account its time for Pondexter to face his destiny & see if he can be a starter & hold it down or move on to something else.

Other notable facts that the NBA is certainly in his blood as his father Roscoe Pondexter played college basketball for Lute Olson at Long Beach State before being drafted by the Boston Celtics in the third round (53rd overall) of the 1974 Draft and playing professionally for 10 seasons overseas…Uncle, Cliff Pondexter, was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the first round (16th overall) of the 1974 NBA Draft and enjoyed a three-year NBA career
