The Miami Dolphins and former pro bowl defensive end Cam Wake are in discussions to restructure his contract.
Wake, who is set to be due $9.8 million this up coming season is coming off an Achilles injury. At 34, this would almost guarantee that Wake would retire as a Dolphin. He is currently second in sacks in club history behind Jason Taylor.
This potential move would free up major needed cap space to use in free agency. There have been rumblings that the Phins are prepared to use the franchise tag on defensive end Oliver Vernon which would be a $15.4 million cap hit.
The Dolphins could also free up space by restructuring the contract of Ndamukong Suh is due $23.4 million. With needs at defensive end, guard, linebacker and cornerback the Phins will need all the extra money
