After the Dolphins missed out on the playoffs yet against last season, Jeff Ireland decided to make some bold moves in an attempt to make this team a contender once again and well, save his job.
The Dolphins spent big money, traded up in the draft and pretty much became the front and center of the NFL media this offseason. With the season starting Thursday and the Dolphins getting ready for their season opener against Cleveland, it's time we here at Phins Phocus share our thoughts on how we think the team fare this season. The two Daniel's have gone head to head on their thoughts for this 2013 season.
Playoffs
Daniel E: The long awaited return will continue.
Daniel M: Miami will be in fierce competition for a postseason berth in the final weeks of the season and will earn a wild card spot as the 6th seed in the AFC. However, the Dolphins will make it no further than the wild card round in 2013.
AFC East Standings
Daniel E: 2nd in the AFC East. Still think at the end of the day, Tom Brady will be too hard to dethrone.
Daniel M: 2nd, behind the Patriots. While I think the Dolphins will close the gab between themselves and New England, I don’t believe they will overtake them this season.
Dolphins Record
Daniel E: While I don't have Miami as a playoff team this season I do see them making somewhat of a leap and improving to 9-7.
Daniel M: 9-7. I see a two game improvement for the Dolphins based on their offseason additions despite a rather difficult schedule.
Ryan Tannehill's 2013 campaign
Daniel E: I think Tannehill will progress but still leave questions at the end of the season if he truly is a franchise and potential Super Bowl winning QB.
Daniel M: I believe Miami’s search for a franchise quarterback comes to an end thanks to Ryan Tannehill. Despite the first round loss, the improvement from his rookie to sophomore seasons will leave the organization and its fans excited for 2014.
Dolphins 2013 MVP
Daniel E: Cam Wake, he is the team's best player and one of the league's elite players, obvious answer here.
Daniel M: Cameron Wake. Wake is currently without question the Dolphins best player on either side of the ball. He easily could lead the league in sacks this year with the additional pass rush opposite of him.
Dolphins offseason moves
Daniel E: Best, signing Brent Grimes. Worst, drafting Dallas Thomas in the 3rd round
Daniel M: Best, signing Mike Wallace. Worst, signing Philip Wheeler.
