Projecting the NFC East for Week 5

Kevin Garnett Chelsea soccer

The Cowboys have a gargantuan task when they host the Cheatriots on Sunday, but defensive reinforcements may keep the game closer than expected. Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain are expected to start after both served 4-game suspensions. McClain makes this defense more physical and team mates feed off it, and Hardy will draw double-teams and allow for some more pressure on Brady. If Sean Lee is a go for Sunday, it’ll mark the first time Lee and McClain will be on the field together, and that could really give the defense a shot in the arm.

Offensively, look for the Cowboys to have to change up the offense with Lance Dunbar out, and here’s where the offense may struggle. With Dunbar out, the Cowboys are left with Witten, Beasley, and Williams as the legitimate threats in the passing game. The Patriots excel in taking away your offensive weapons, so it’ll be tough sledding on Sunday. Our best chance to win this game will come from forced turnovers and defensive 3rd down stoppages. If the Cowboys can get the Patriots off the field on 3rd downs, we’ll have a chance; if not, it’ll be game over and re-grouping at the bye.

What about the rest of the NFC East and how could the standing in the division look after week five?

Here’s what the East looks like:

  • Patriots @ Cowboys (2-2)
  • 49ers @ Giants (2-2)
  • Redskins (2-2) @ Falcons
  • Saints @ Eagles (1-3)

— Let’s project how this weekend’s games will affect the standings

I desperately want the Cowboys to win a few games before Romo returns, but I just don’t see it this week against the Cheatriots, so I’m saying we’ll be 2-3 heading into the bye week. A Cowboys win would be amazing momentum!

The Giants are will beat the 49ers and be 3-2

The Redskins will lose to the Falcons on the road and drop to 2-3

The Eagles game is really hard to project, but I’m going to give the Saints a big win on the road, sending the Eagles to 1-4 and reeling.

If the weekend plays out like I’m thinking, then the Cowboys will come back from the the bye week with a gigantic divisional game against the Giants which could potentially be sitting at 4-2 with wins over the 49ers and Eagles the following week. It’ll be nice if the Giants would lose both games, lol.

Obviously, the division is weak thus far and unimpressive, but if any teams get on a streak, it could be the Giants. The Redskins are still another year off from showing marked improvement and the Eagles are on the verge of imploding and turning on Kelly.

How do you see the NFC East faring this weekend?
