Raiders QB Pryor nursing MCL sprain, McGloin looks to start Sunday

Oakland Raiders starting quarterback Terrelle Pryor looks to rest his sprained MCL this Sunday against the Houston Texans as his back-up quarterback Matt McGloin is expected to start.

Pryor has struggled in the last four games at times he has not shown his great speed and mobility on the field.

Yesterday Pryor was reporting back to practice and sharing first team snaps with McGloin. At that time it still wasn’t guaranteed  would start in Sunday’s game.  It came down to his Friday’s practice that appeared to be key to coach Dennis Allen decision.

Friday rolled around, and Pryor was back to practice,  but it didn’t go as planned and as hoped by Allen and his staff and Pryor appear to have a setback.  Pryor participated in Raiders practice Friday “working at something less than half speed.”

The trouble was first reported by the Oakland Tribune’s Jerry McDonald came away believing McGloin “looks like” the Raiders’ likely Week 11 starting quarterback.

Later it was explained in more detailed by Coach Dennis Allen revealed Pryor “wasn’t feeling as good (Friday) as he did on (Thursday).”  Therefore, as it looks Pryor will be nursing his MCL sprain Sunday against the Texans.

According to Vic Tafur of the SF Chronicle, twitted “all signs” point to Matt McGloin getting the nod at starting at quarterback for the Raiders in Week 11.

In the unlikely scenario Pryor does start, Allen has been publicly open to the idea that Pryor could be pulled early in the game if he continues to demonstrate knee troubles.

Pryor is still listed as questionable but as it appears now its more doubtful that he make the start.

It’s a rather large downgrade to all of the Raiders’ skill-position players. The Raiders are expected to activate Tyler Wilson from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game against the Texans.

McGloin is an undrafted free agent rookie out of Penn State that will be making his first NFL start against the Texans’ No. 1 pass defense.
