Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Kenny Britt is said to be eyeing the Philadelphia Eagles to reunite with position coach Mike Groh.
But it’s not Groh who will be throwing passes Britt’s way in 2017.
Britt has worked with a variety of dubious quarterbacks or quarterbacks past their prime since entering the league in 2008, according to ESPN.com. Those names include Vince Young, an older Kerry Collins, a passing-his-prime Matt Hasselbeck, Jake Locker, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Austin Davis, Shaun Hill, Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Jared Goff.
Bleacher Reports’s Jason Cole added that Rams receivers may have lacked respect for Goff, based on an incident in which Goff asked the L.A. receivers to work with him on an off day after he was named starter and no one showed up.
But that may be an indictment on the atmosphere that permeated the Rams facility toward the end of former coach Jeff Fisher’s tenure.
ESPN reports that Britt craves a “franchise quarterback.” While it can be said that Eagles rookie Carson Wentz had a much better debut season than Goff, can Wentz be counted on to be a franchise QB?
L.A. showed Britt how valuable he was last season, throwing him 111 passes, of which he caught a career-high 68 for a career-high 1,002 yards. And that was on the worst offense in the NFL.
Even if the Rams get a talented free agent or rookie in 2017, Britt’s numbers figure to improve with the changes new offensive-minded head coach Sean McVay intends to make. The job McVay did with Kirk Cousins and the passing game in Washington shouldn’t be discounted, and Britt could look forward to better numbers and better efficiency in 2017.
Britt should at least find out the plans the Rams have for him if he were to stay before jumping ship to start a relationship with yet another quarterback that isn’t considered elite, at least yet.
