Red Bulls Hit The Road Against New England

After yet another disappointing result last weekend at home against Chicago, the Red Bulls are on the road this weekend as the take on the Revs in Foxboro. Both teams, regardless of their position in the league, have had disappointing campaigns thus far and, especially recently, have struggled to get solid results. The Red Bulls find themselves in an uphill battle to try to secure a playoff spot. After some results happening around them, particularly Sporting KCs win against Portland, the Red Bulls are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, but level on points with DC, who are in sixth place. Its safe to say that the Red Bulls need to get results from their finals games of the season if they are to have any chance of making the playoffs this year – something which would have sounded ridiculous to say in the beginning of the year.

Like many games, on paper it seems as if the Red Bulls should be able to get a good result. As we have seen lately though, this is rarely the case. Fortunately for the Red Bulls the Revs seem similarly incapable of getting a win in a bad stretch they are going through. No disrespect to them, but the results speak for themselves. They came agonizingly close last time out against Houston, only to give up an equalizing goal in stoppage time that denied them a win. In fact, the Revs have won just one of their last fourteen MLS matches. Perhaps one of these teams will end their winning drought tonight, or they may be both continued with a draw.

The last time these two teams played, the Red Bulls were lucky to hold on for a 2-1 win. Despite being outplayed in the match, the Red Bulls rode their luck, as well as a very strong performance by Thierry Henry to get the three points. Henry really demonstrated his qualities as he troubled the Revs defense all night, particularly Ryan Cochrane, to create both goals. Despite the overall disappointing season, Henry has been far from that, being far and away the best player for the Red Bulls. Hopefully he can put forth another strong performance this weekend because on his day he has the ability to single-handedly lead the team to victory, something which very few players have the ability to do. We will see how things unfold tonight, as the game is scheduled to kickoff from Gillette Stadium at 7:30 Eastern Time.
