The New York Red Bulls host Sporting Kansas City this Saturday night as NY will look to continue their scoring success. The Red Bulls have scored seven unanswered goals in their last two games. Their most recent success was a 4-0 destruction of D.C. United. The last time these two teams met was back in October 2010. New York came out on top scoring just one goal. However this time, things could be much different.
Coach Hans Backe has created an unstoppable lineup, which is unlikely to change for Saturday’s game. Frenchman Thierry Henry has recently found what he has been missing, scoring three goals in the past two games. Henry and Luke Rodgers will start together again against Kansas City as both have seen outstanding success. New York’s offense will be a tough test for Kansas City’s backline who have let in 12 goals so far this season, 2nd most in the league. Jan Gunnar Solli has made a name for himself in New York’s roster. With three assists last game, he will continue to dominate against Sporting Kansas City’s offense. Along with Solli, Tim Ream and Rafa Marquez have also been solid in the backline. The defense will put up a wall which Kansas City’s offense could have a hard time breaking down.
Coming off of a 3-2 loss to the New England Revolution, Sporting Kansas City will hope to bounce back against a hot New York. Kansas City has not found success lately, losing their last four consecutive games. While the team has not found a way to win, KC has however found a way to score. Currently sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, Kansas City has scored 10 goals this season. Kei Kamara and Teal Bunbury have both scored three goals this season. Both will start alongside C.J Sapong to complete Kansas City’s front line.
As for Sporting’s defense, Jimmy Nielsen will be starting in goal. Nielsen has played all five games for KC this year and has seen no shutouts. Nielsen, along with the rest of Sporting’s backline, has seen much trouble keeping goals out. The defense, which consists of Roger Espinoza, Aurelien Collin, Matt Besler and Michael Harrington, will hope to finally find some success against New York. Sporting Kansas City has only one win this year, but they will look to finally turn things around come Saturday night.
