The future looks bright for the youthful Red Sox, who showed the league how much firepower they have that is led by Jackie Bradley Jr, Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and other future stars.
Yesterday (June 9th), the Red Sox had the 12th pick in the 2016 MLB Draft and they used that pick on LHP Jason Groome, who is still 17 years old out of Barnegat High School (NJ). At one point, Groome was suppose to be the #1 pick in the 2016 draft but with eligibility problems with Vanderbilt and IMG Academy and Groome’s personality, his draft stock dropped and the Red Sox took arguably the best pitcher in this draft thus far. Groome stands an intimidating 6’5/6’6 and weighs a lean 190-200 pounds and has a fastball that can compete with some of the best pitchers in the MLB right now.
The next prospect the Sox scooped up was stand out shortstop out of Florida Atlantic University C.J. Chatham. Standing 6’4, Chatham is a larger type of shortstop but that wasn’t his original position. A player that has played multiple positions, Chatham is an intriguing find in this draft early on and with his last name being a town in Cape Cod, Chatham should fit right in. You could see him in the starting lineup sooner than you think along with Jason Groome.
The Draft will continue on today at 12:30pm and into tomorrow.
