Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber hasn’t played in a game since tearing the ACL and LCL in his left knee against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 7. If Chicago advances to the World Series, Schwarber could be an option as a designated hitter, The Chicago Tribune reports.
The 23-year-old was added to the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League on Saturday, and it is possible he could return for the World Series against Cleveland if the Cubs can clinch the National League pennant this weekend. Chicago has a 3-2 series lead on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Schwarber became the Cubs’ all-time postseason home run leader after hitting five in the playoffs a year ago. He hit .246 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs in 69 games last season after being called up from Triple-A Iowa.
Schwarber is expected to be in the starting lineup for the Mesa Solar Sox on Saturday night, which should allow the Cubs to see if he’s healthy enough before making decision. First things first, the Cubs need to beat the Dodgers.
