Report: LaMarcus Aldridge might not finish the year with the Spurs

San Antonio Spurs v Oklahoma City Thunder - Game Six

LaMarcus Aldridge has three years left on his contract with the San Antonio Spurs, but the five-time All-Star could reportedly be traded during the 2016-17 season.

During an appearance on CSN New England Tuesday,’s Jackie MacMullan said the Spurs might try to shop Aldridge: “For instance, sources were telling me the other day that LaMarcus Aldridge may not even finish the year with the Spurs. That experiment hasn’t quite worked out the way they hoped.”

Aldridge signed a four-year, $80 million deal with the Spurs last offseason after averaging a career-high 23.4 points and 10.2 rebounds with Portland during the 2014-15 season. In 74 games with San Antonio last season, Aldridge averaged the third-lowest points of his career (18) and 8.5 rebounds.

If Aldridge struggles during his second season with the team, then it would be in the Spurs’ best interest to trade him. Aldridge is only 31 years old, and he has a player option after the 2017-18 season.
