Tom Brady had a standing ovation that was unmatched by anyone else. The Packers watched as the future hall of fame quarterback entered the first preseason game with confidence. Only seven snaps for Brady throughout the entire game and Brady gave control to Jimmy Garoppolo, who went 20 for 30 on completions with 0 touchdowns and a interception. Garoppolo had bright moments as a sophomore quarterback. He seems to be more comfortable in the pocket even though relying on your offensive line is the most important thing. His quick screen passes are very useful on a 2nd or 3rd down to get the 1st down. Garoppolo relied heavily on James White, who is a running back out of Wisconsin (2nd year). White had a few screen passes and got some decent yardage out of each one. Josh Boyce was Garoppolo’s main receiver targets throughout the game. Boyce to most people, didn’t seem like he grasped the offensive plays but he has great speed to outduel the cornerbacks. Jonas Gray broke through Thursday night as he ran for a 55 yd touchdown in the second quarter. Gray seemed like he gained speed over the offseason as reporters were talking about. It makes sense as he did look like he shed some pounds.
Aaron Rodgers on the other hand had a great night throwing 11 of 19 completions for 117 yards. Rodgers then handed over the reigns to back up Scott Tolzien. Tolzien had some moments where now I understand why he is backing up Aaron Rodgers. Tolzien has pretty darn good accuracy on the post routes as he threw a TD pass to Jeff Janis. Tolzien is a home state quarterback, played ball at the University of Wisconsin. Tolzien also can make the throws in tight windows which is critical. He is learning from one of the best in Rodgers and he will continue to do so. RB Alonzo Harris ran for a 25 yd touchdown for the cheeseheads which was critical. Harris is a rookie out of Louisiana Lafayette. John Crockett gave Green Bay the last touchdown for them as third string quarterback Brett Hundley (Rookie out of UCLA), threw a 10 yd TD to Crockett.
Final Score- GB 22- NE 11
