The Cowboys snapped a dismal 7-game losing streak with Tony Romo back in the starting lineup. With the win the Cowboys are still in the hunt in the NFC East. The Eagles and Redskins got crushed today, dropping them both to 4-6.
NFC East Standings
Giants 5-5 (Next: @Redskins)
Redskins 4-6 (Next: Giants)
Eagles 4-6 (Next: Buccaneers)
Cowboys 3-7 (Next: Panthers)
Next week could really shake up the NFC East, and the Cowboys will need to get past the 10-0 Panthers to stay in the hunt. You have to believe with Romo back the Cowboys will make the game competitive and could in fact win this game on Thanksgiving.
The Cowboys are 29-17-1 on Thanksgiving and the Panthers have never played a game on Thanksgiving Day. The Cowboys play well and teams have to adjust to the short schedule; moreover, the fact the Panthers have never played on Thanksgiving could be a wild card factor.
As for the game, here are my quick takes on the game:
— Tony Romo did in fact elevate the team, it did take two quarters to get everyone settled in, but then the key plays starting coming. The lack of big plays have evaded the Cowboys for several weeks, but with Romo back they were able to get the much needed win.
— Terrance Williams and Dez Bryant made plays to keep drives going and hauled in two TDs.
— The offensive line still having some game killing penalties and the coaching needs to be re-evaluated if this continues. We’re 10 games in and the inopportune penalties are still there. Gotta clean that up. Outside of the penalties, the line opened up lanes for McFadden.
— Field position continues to put the offense behind the eight-ball, this is on Rich. Still playing like shit there. We had ZERO kick returns.
— Romomentum
— Darren McFadden still has it. I wondered if he still had enough in the tank, and he was impressive today. 29 carries for 129.
— The sacks came today. 3 sacks in total today. Now we just need to build on that and get those sacks earlier in the game. The defense plays a lot better with a lead.
— Sean Lee had a nice game, led the team with 5 tackles – 4 solo.
— Byron Jones tweaked his ankle in the final seconds of the game, but was able to walk off on his own power.
— Zack Martin continues to show his power in handling Suh today. La’el Collins is mauling people. I really like our guard play right now. The tackles need to pick it up.
Let’s enjoy this game for a few hours, and let’s get ready to make a statement against the Panthers.
