Running Diary of Whatever Game I Feel Like Watching at 7pm on 5/19

I’m going to watch and  comment on games that start 7 tonight. I’ll bounce around from game to game a bit and share what happens and what I think. Lets Go

The games I’ll be watching are the Rockies in Philly, the Yankees in Baltimore, the Rays up in Toronto, the Cubbies in Florida, and the Tigers in Boston. Actually, it appears that the Yankees and Orioles are delayed so that probably wont be one of them.

7:25- So I really meant to start with the start of the games but a quick Wendy’s run was in order. Now that that’s taken care of, we can begin.

7:26- So the Rockies hung a 3 spot on the Phillies in the first. Wonder who’s pitching, I’ll check. Giambi’s 3 run blast off Kyle Kendrick is responsible for the scoring.

7:28- Chris Iannetta K’s. Wow that guy has killed my fantasy teams way too many years.

7:32- 123 inning for Kendrick. He looked pretty good, maybe he can put in a strong outing after a rough first.

7:33- New game, Detroit at Boston. Bases loaded for the Tigers and Inge hits  a long fly to left that V-Mart could have walked in on. He didn’t tag for some reason so now its 2 out and still 1-0 Detroit. This is definitely the best pitching matchup of the night with Justin Verlander vs Josh Beckett.

7:38- Beckett wriggles out of trouble thanks in part to Martinez’s base running blunder. He just finished a 25 pitch inning and left the bases loaded. Beckett doesn’t look great though, he was missing spots even on strikes.

7:40- New Game. Cubs and Marlins. Koyie is a funny name. Sucks for Koyie Hill. Also, can we all reflect for a moment on how hilarious Darwin Barney’s name is? I don’t think we’ve mentioned that on the blog yet and for that I am sorry.

7:42- Passed ball by John Buck on what should have been a strike. Good thing he hits homers.

7:44- Casey Coleman grounds out of Chris Volstad to end the inning. Who are these guys on the Cubs?

7:46- New Game. Rays and Blue Jays. Weird little quick pitch/ pitchout thing by Wade Davis and the Rays get Rajai Davis caught in a run down trying to steal. Cool, good move by them and it helped Wade to a 6 pitch inning

7:48- Its pouring in Philly but Jason Giambi just went yard again. He’s 2-2 with 2 jacks and 5 RBI and 5-0 Rockies. The Phillies’ announcers seem not to notice.

7:51- Contrary to what was previously reported on this diary, Kyle Kendrick looks terrible. Everything’s up and he’s getting hit. And wet, its raining real hard, I’m  little surprised they’re playing. Maybe Kyle is too.

7:54- Some guy from the Phillies front office is currently being interviewed on the broadcast. He basically said that other than Dominic Brown the Phills have no talent on the Triple A team and that all the prospects are in Double A. Ouch for all you guys on the Iron Pigs. The guy was the asst. GM.

8:00- So apparently the Marlins are doing some auction thing  tonight and keep interviewing all these people about it. I wonder if there’s a ball game going on.

8:02- So the Yankees and O’s have started after a rain delay. The Yanks’s are already up 2-0 and were still in the top of the first. Brad Bergeson doesn’t have it tonight.

8:03- Jorge Posada is getting a pity start at 1B tonight and is arguing balls and strikes with the home plate ump. He annoys me.

8:05- Despite having the lowest AVG against righties of anyone in the MLB, Nick Swisher belts a bases clearing double to give the Yanks a 5-0 lead. Yankees have batted around in the 1st and are outscoring the O’s 42-16 this season head to head.

8:08-Verlander K’s the side in Boston. Looks like its going to rain there too.

8:12- Brief rain Delay in Philly. I don’t even think they put the tarp on. Kyle Kendrick’s day is done though as Danys Baez is in.

8:16- Holy crap Verlander is good. Kevin Youkilis is a real good hitter and he didn’t have a prayer. 4 straight strike outs for Justin.

8:18- Of course. Just as I finish writing the above post JD Drew hits a homer. 2-1 Sox.

8:19- Yay, the White Sox are at home which means I get to listen to Hawk Harrelson. Ducksnort! I may be the only one to think that though: heavethehawk.com.

8:23- Alexi Ramirez gets drilled in the hand by Fausto Carmona. He’s on the ground writhing in pain. I’d be shocked if its not broken but he’s staying in the game.

OK, I’m getting tired and have stuff to do (no, really) so only 1 more post…

8:28- i’ve been at this for over an hour and the biggest thing I’ve learned is that Marlins have the worst announcing crew ever. Possibly worse than Susan Waldman. No, thats not possible, nevermind.

I’m done.
