Looks like Isaiah Stanback will be given his walking paper after the game against Minnesota. I’m being told that the Cowboys really like undrafted rookie free agent, Kevin Olgetree. In addition to this, Ogletree seems to be further along than where Hurd and Austin were their rookie years. Look for Olgetree to be the #5 receiver and look for him to jump up the roster if he continues to play well.
The Cowboys have not been impressed with Austin this camp and preseason as he seems to have regressed, and Hurd is about the same, maybe a bit ahead of Austin again. Both players will be free agents next season unless they are extended, and as it stands right now, I would not be surprised to see both out after this season. On the flipside, the injury proneness of Roy Williams could open the door back up for one of the two to make a lasting impression for 2010. We’ll see what happens.
I have a feeling the 2010 draft, will be the year the Cowboys finally roll the dice on a receiver early.
