A four game winning streak for the Boston Celtics is solid but for Brad Stevens, this four game winning streak impacts how he has coached.
The Celtics are now 18-13, 5 games above .500 which is the best record under the Brad Stevens era. This is an accomplishment that will extend hopefully to six games as they face the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night.
Here is the lowdown on what the upcoming schedule holds for the Celtics and if the winning streak can extend to more than four.
Wednesday Dec 30th vs Lakers- As we all know, future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant is arriving in Boston. The 5-27 Lakers are not executing well and the Celtics will make them pay for that. Kobe is a phenomenal shooter as we all know and you have rookie PG D’Angelo Russell trying to drop dimes and make craft passes. Russell is averaging 12 points along with approximately 3 assists a game. If Isaiah Thomas or Avery Bradley controls the flow of the basketball for Los Angeles, they will win this game. Force turnovers on Russell, who is prone to turning the ball over (2.3 per game). Also second chance rebounding will be key with Roy Hibbert and former Celtic Brandon Bass underneath the hoop. Olynyk or Jared Sullinger have to be on their A game of rebounding Wednesday.
Saturday Jan 2/Jan 4th vs/@ Brooklyn- Saturday I will be in attendance for the Brooklyn Nets game as the C’s host the Nets then go down to Brooklyn Monday to recap the back to back series. At 9-22, the Nets are better than LA and they have some scrappers who can bring them back into the ball game. PG Shane Larkin and SG Wayne Ellington are two key components to this Nets team. They recently defeated Miami with a 16 point comeback with Ellington and Larkin igniting the fire. And with Brook Lopez at the 5, it’s hard to defend a solid 7 ft offensive player with great post moves. Olynyk will have to take Lopez out of his rhythm and make him take the outside shots but Lopez is a decent shooter so it’s whether or not he’s comfortable with the shot he’s taking.
The Celtics have the opportunity to extend the winning streak to 7 after Monday night. It’s very possible this happens with all cylinders clicking.
