Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum might want to set his sights a little higher.
Tannenbaum told WSVN-TV in Miami, via NFL.com, that the 2016 Miami Dolphins “would beat the crap out of the 2015 Dolphins.”
Like they do just about every offseason, the Dolphins have shuffled their roster in 2016. They’ve also hired Adam Gase as head coach.
The goal, though, is to catch the Patriots in the AFC East and/or make the playoffs for the first time since 2008. The Dolphins’ last playoff appearance also was the last time they had a winning season, and the franchise hasn’t had a playoff win since 2000.
The Dolphins have added defensive end Mario Williams, inside linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Byron Maxwell to their defense. The Dolphins are banking on all three of them to bounce back from disappointing 2015 seasons.
Meanwhile, promising defensive ends Olivier Vernon (Giants) and Derrick Shelby (Falcons) are gone on defense and Lamar Miller (Texans) and Rishard Matthews (Titans) are gone on offense. The Dolphins signed C.J. Anderson to an offer sheet and today is the last day the Broncos can match it.
If all these moves have done is make the Dolphins better than last year’s 6-10 team, then they have a lot more work to do.
