Owens truly had a banner year in 2007. He had both his most memorable performance and was truly a media magnet with his TD celebrations and off-field comments.
Dallas the only team fighting for supremacy over the Patriots in 2007. The Packers were also in a heated race and Owens helped stake the Cowboys’ claim to the NFC on a primetime Thursday night between two 10-1 teams.
It wasn’t quite as big as his four-touchdown performance two weeks earlier, but his 156 yards were greatly appreciated. But more than the yardage, his touchdown five minutes into the second quarter that put up the Cowboys by 17 points is largely his most memorable Cowboys moment.
Moreover, it’s the mess he made on the sideline with a box of popcorn in celebration that’s remembered. With the Cowboys flying high over the next-best team in the conference, it only fit Owens’ personality to rub it in everyone’s face.
Perhaps it broadcasted his diva personality too much for his own good, and it was a premature celebration as the Packers stormed back almost completing a comeback on the heels of Aaron Rodgers’ introduction.
It’s Owens’ career encapsulated in a single moment: High theatrics to match high performance, but a tad too much vanity to keep it contained.
