College Station, TX
It’s being announced that Mike Evans, Johnny Manziel’s biggest target for the Texas A&M Aggies has just announced that he will give up eligibility and enter the 2014 NFL Draft. Evans is a gigantic wide receiving target standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds who could possibly punish defensive backs at the next level due his overwhelming frame alone.
In two seasons at Texas A&M, Evans has had excellent production as he has had 151 catches for 2499 yards and 17 touchdowns, including games versus Auburn and Alabama where he had 279 and 287 yards respectably. simply put this guy is a prototype for any team that needs a redzone scorer. Considering his size, in high school he did a 4.54 second 40 yard dash time, if that number in anyway has dropped below 4.5, he could cement himself as a top ten draft pick and would make it for teams that need another weapon to pass on him including the Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and the Buffalo Bills to name a few.
That being said there are some knocks on Evans’ game including questionable route running and maturity issues as he won’t be 21 years old until next august. Another big knock on Evans’ game is that he’s only played two seasons of college football so he is still developing his skills and not everyone can be like Cordarrelle Patterson of last year’s draft. However, if Evans can build up his route tree he could turn into a team’s number one receiver for years to come.
All and all, Mike Evans of the Texas A&M Aggies could hear his name extremely early in this May’s draft and will likely be the first wide receiver taken off the board after announcing his intentions today.
