The Los Angeles Rams $2.6 billion complex will be legendary

level

It all started back in 2014 when Stan Kroenke purchased 60 acres of land. Now dubbed temporarily as City Of Champions Stadium presumably until naming rights are finalized, will hold the ground breaking ceremony in Inglewood Calif. Among the higher ups expected to attend are Stan Kroenke, Roger Goodell and Inglewood Mayor James Butts.

The estimated $2.6 billion complex will include two lakes, four parks, a hotel, retail, office space and apartment buildings. The new Stadium will take place 3 miles south of LAX international airport and sit adjacent to the recently renovated Forum.

Great news for Rams fans from afar and visiting teams. The stadium itself will hold a game day capacity of 80,000 people while able to expand to 100,000 capacity during other events and the Superbowl. Features of the stadium include open air passive cooling design with a canopy instead of an enclosed dome made out of ETFE which is a material used to create the Watercube in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

ETFE will allow vasts amounts of California sun into the stadium while being only one percent of the weight of glass.

Inglewood Mayor James Butt states the stadium will include a ” lit LED roof” able to display visuals as well as vertical columns at the four sweeping open space entrances.

The construction of the Stadium will make it the most expensive sports venue in the world and will be host to Superbowl LV in 2021. Other possible site events could include the NFL Draft, FIFA Soccer, Concerts, Final Four, award shows, and the X-Games. Least we forget about the Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Olympics which could make the new Rams stadium a contributing factor in bringing the games back to the United States.

The Rams may not be the only tenants as the Chargers are still trying to broker a deal with the city of San Diego to build a new stadium for the team in order for them to stay. If the Chargers do not make a deal by January 15 2017 which is only a couple of months away.

If the Chargers do move to Los Angeles the stadium is designed to house two NFL teams in a way that neither team will have less space than the other. Parking will include about 9,000 spaces including some 1,000 VIP parking spots below the stadium.

Light rail is expected to extend the green line directly to the complex. Transportation to the game has been a large concern as earlier in the Rams season at the LA Memorial Coliseum there were reports of third-party parking spaces going for $180. Hopefully by 2019 LA county will improve on public transportation.
