The strangest day of college football in my life.

Words would be impossible for me to explain exactly what today was like for me, but for the first time in my life I found myself rooting against Michigan, and even when I tried to stop myself I couldn’t. It’s not that I don’t like Brady Hoke nor do I have any ill feelings towards a single player on the Michigan team, it was merely because they were playing San Diego State a team Boise plays down the road.

I knew before I went to bed last night I wanted SDSU to win hell I even pick them to upset Michigan in my picks and I truly believed it, so imagine my disgust to see how poorly San Diego played, I found myself yelling at the TV like I did during the RR years in Michigan! There was even a brief period where I tried to stop myself from rooting against Michigan, telling myself this just can’t be real, but alas I couldn’t find it in my heart to pull nor support Michigan’s victory in any way while it is clear they are my second favorite team now ,of which there is doubt but even placing second is not enough to overcome my desire to see any favorable game result for the Boise State Bronco’s.

Two years ago I had thought just who would I pull for if Michigan and Boise was ever to play head to head, deep down I believed in the end I would pull for Michigan however considering it a win win situation, clearly after today’s events that isn’t even close to being true. The only bad feelings I held after the Michigan win was in the fact that they did win! I assure that has never ever happened before.

To make matter worse for me today only one of my unlikely picks actually won while there was many close calls no one could come through, but it’s still early in the season so an upset Saturday is bound to happen sooner or later.

As for the Boise State Tulsa game goes Kellen was magical as ever, there was quite a few walking wounded on both sides of the ball and as was very clear by the video Tulsa was playing extremely dirty targeting both D and O linemen’s knees, while this wasn’t the case for Tyron Crawford, it was the case for the rest of them. I guess Tulsa believed if they couldn’t win they would try to take our players out, typical of a southwest team I suppose. While there was some nerves monuments when Billy and Tyron went down as well as others, the disappointment of having coach call off the dogs with 8 minutes left in the 3rd was disappointing, if there is one thing that is hard to deal with these Bronco’s it is just how damn smart coach Pete is and how he’s always looking at the long term interest of the team I just hope he learned his lesson from the Nevada game last year and considers how important actual game play is to keeping the players in top shape. I know very well no one ever pushes themselves as hard in work outs and practice as they do in actual games. Endurance is key however Coach Pete is able to use these blow out games to get his future starters real game experience which has been a key component to getting his 2 &3 star recruits to play at a much higher level than other teams. I will also say on the D line side of the ball he does seem committed to playing his line deeper than in the past but then again he plays most them in rotation any ways, so he really doesn’t have anyone else sitting on the bench to fill in.

Kellen Moore obviously is the heart and soul as well as its leader of this team and I mean on both sides of the ball. Once it was clear Kellen was coming out of the game there was a noticeable let down in the D’s play it’s as if they were just as disappointed in not being able to watch Kellen play more as the rest of us were. I will not complain about that as it is Kellen nor any other Bronco player is paid to play, sure they get scholarships but it’s not like a professional where people are paying hundreds of dollars to come see contracted professionals to come play for our entertainment, these are after all young college men who are just trying to set the stage for the futures they have no signing bonus yet.

Deep down I do wish Boise had a tougher schedule, and I will admit I feel that way because of my desire for more enjoyment and thrills these young men on the Boise State team are able to provide. Blowouts will continue as the season progresses and will attempt to make as much hype as we possibly can about the remaining schedule, there will plenty more where Kellen and others do not play deep in to the 3rd and hopefully as we get deeper into the season coach will let those coming in for real game time experience more leeway in play calling.
