The Wait is Nearly Over for Sixers Fans

The Wait is Nearly Over for Sixers Fans
Say it with me Adam, ‘which means the 1st pick in next month’s NBA draft will belong to the Philadelphia…’
6 days. That’s how much longer Sixers fans have left to wait before the vagaries of bouncing ping pong balls decide the basketball viewing experience in Philadelphia for at least the next half decade. With Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid both taking the court next season, the team projects to finally emerge out of the tanking primordial ooze and begin its evolution on the ‘This. Starts. Now.’ trajectory promised by management. I’m not saying the Sixers are destined for great things next season, but even an incremental improvement means somewhere around 25-30 wins and little hope at an early lottery pick.

Thus, barring significant injuries, Tuesday night is likely the last chance for the Sixers to secure a top pick and the elite superstar talent which is more and more readily apparent to be crucial for success in today’s NBA. Maybe Embiid will be that guy anyway and simply getting a complementary piece or two in this draft will be enough. But then again, maybe he won’t be. So like millions of down on their luck Americans, we wait, hoping those ping pong balls will take us from poor house to penthouse. When you’re on vacation, 6 days can fly by in the blink of an eye; however, sometimes, 6 days can feel like an eternity.

In the meantime, like any good cat owner knows, sometimes all the distraction you need is a shiny object and the Sixers whipped out their proverbial laser pointer yesterday with the unveiling of a new logo design.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsThe new look was met with nearly universal acclaim and I’m not here to try to be contrarian for contrarian’s sake. The team should always stick with a simple red, white, and blue design to honor this city’s roots as a fledgling nation’s first capital. They did a good job not straying too far from the traditional logo, while just giving it a sleeker, more modern look. I also like the official inclusion of the ballin’ Ben Franklin; I like to think alongside a keen intellect for invention, a Ben in modern times would have had some serious game.

Six stars on the primary logo. Six days away from the lottery. Sixers. Things are about to get electric.
