Last May, Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, Penguins defenseman Jamie Oleksiak challenged Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson to a fight after he concussed Zach Aston-Reese with a questionable, dirty hit. At the time, Wilson decided against fighting Oleksiak.
Before game four, Wilson was suspended three games by the National Hockey League for his hit on Zach Aston-Reese. Post-suspension, this was the first game that Wilson played against the Penguins. You had to know this was coming.
This time, Wilson answered the bell and brutally dropped Oleksiak 55 second into the game.
Jamie Mackey from the Post-Gazette gives us the rundown.
“When Jamie challenged Wilson, he couldn’t run quick enough to get away from him,” Rutherford told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette during an interview on a variety of topics Monday morning, adding that having Reaves would’ve “offset” Wilson’s physical play.
“Until, of course, the referees get in close, then [Wilson] comes back and says something to him.”
I guess we can say that Wilson answered the bell this time.
Ouch! Next time, maybe Oleksiak will think twice about challenging Wilson to a fight. It didn’t end well for him this time.
