Total MLS Top 5 – April 25

Starting today, we will be posting a top 5 power rankings. Our staff will vote after each week of games and we will post the top 5 from our consensus rankings. Depending on how things go we may expand to a top 10 or to a full league of 18. Without further ado, here is the inaugural Total MLS top 5.

Fabian Espindola of Real Salt Lake

1. Real Salt Lake – The would be kings of CONCACAF are a clear number 1 according to our writers. They missed being a unanimous number 1 by just one voter putting them in second. (We won’t mention any names.)

2. Los Angeles Galaxy – Landon Donovan and David Beckham are back together and the Galaxy look to be clicking. They received votes ranging from first to fourth.

3. New York Red Bulls – Thierry Henry and Juan Agudelo put on a show Thursday night and the team who many had as a preseason favorite is now rounding into form. The Red Bulls got votes ranging from second to fifth.

4. Philadelphia Union – The Union were off this week but remain second in the East after being leap-frogged by New York. They come in a solid fourth after getting mostly fourth place votes sprinkled in with a couple of thirds and a fifth. They were not voted for by one writer.

5. Colorado Rapids – An embarassing Friday night at home was not enough to knock the Rapids out of the top 5. They were helped by a third place vote to get tgem in the top 5. We will see in the coming weeks if they are able to hold off a couple of teams close on their heels.

Others receiving votes: Houston Dynamo, Seattle Sounders, New England Revolution

Do you agree or disagree with our writers? Feel we left any deserving teams out or over rated a team? Leave us a comment and let us know your opinion.
