Total-MLS Top 5 – June 1

It’s week six of our top 5 as voted on by the Total-MLS writers. Things are getting a little clearer in the top 5 this week, as just seven teams received votes. Our number one team again holds on to the top spot for a third straight week. Let’s have a look at the top 5 for Week 11.

David Beckham and LA are flying high

1. Los Angeles Galaxy – The Galaxy got two wins this week and sit atop our rankings. With star Landon Donovan leaving for the Gold Cup, can they stay on top? They received first place votes from all but three writers (three seconds).

2. FC Dallas – FC Dallas got a win in Seattle and a draw in Houston against their rivals to continue to show that they are a team to be reckoned with. They received one first place vote and a majority of second place votes. They also got a third and two fourths.

3. Philadelphia Union – Maybe it’s time to take the Union seriously. Philadelphia is tops in the Eastern Conference and is coming off a 6 goal explosion in Toronto. The Union got one first place vote and a wide array of votes from second to fourth.

4. New York Red Bulls – Will the real Red Bulls please stand up? Are they a premier team in MLS or are they just an average team? There’s a lot of season left to find out but for now they stay fourth in our rankings. New York received three third place votes but the rest were fourths and fifths. Two of our writers did not rank them.

5. Seattle Sounders – After many weeks of just missing out, the Sounders finally make it into our top 5. They rebounded from a midweek loss to snap RSL’s home unbeaten streak on the weekend. Seattle takes the fifth spot with votes ranging from third to fifth. They also were not voted for by two writers.

Others receiving votes: Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers
