Total-MLS Top 5 – June 14

We’ve reached week eight of our top 5 as voted on by the Total-MLS writers. After a wild week of Major League Soccer action the top 5 is again a big mess. This week, nine teams received votes but our number one team holds on to the top spot for a fifth straight week. Let’s have a look at the top 5 for Week 13.

Juan Pablo Angel

1. Los Angeles Galaxy –Another draw for the Galaxy keeps them in the top spot. They gave up a late equalizer but remain a nearly consensus number one. They received first place votes from all but two writers (a second and a fourth). One writer did not vote them in the top 5.

2. Real Salt Lake – After dropping out of the top 5 two weeks ago, RSL has climbed back up to second in our rankings. They earned a draw in Philadelphia and could continue to climb with their games in hand. They received votes ranging from first to fifth.

3. Philadelphia Union  – Speaking of Philadelphia, the Union come off that draw with RSL and check in at third in the rankings. They are now tied for first in the Eastern Conference with New York but have a game in hand. The Union got votes ranging from second to fourth.

4. New York Red Bulls – Their marketing department sure didn’t get any love from the fans this week but after a win over New England, the Red Bulls return to the rankings. The Red Bulls received one first place vote and a variety of seconds through fifths. Two writers did not have them in the top 5.

5. FC Dallas – Dallas was embarassed at home by a Sporting Kansas City team on short rest and barely remain in the rankings. With four teams right on their tail, they can’t afford another loss if they expect to remain in the rankings. FCD got one second place vote and the other votes ranging from third to fifth. They were not voted for by two writers.

Others receiving votes: San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders, Houston Dynamo, Colorado Rapids
