It’s week five of our top 5 as voted on by the Total-MLS writers. Again this week, nine teams received votes and the number one team holds on to the top spot for a second week in a row. Let’s have a look at the top 5 for Week 10.
1. Los Angeles Galaxy – The Galaxy beat rivals Chivas USA Saturday night and remain the best team in MLS according to our writers.. They received first place votes from all but two writers (a second and a third). One writer did not rank them in the top five.
2. Real Salt Lake – The margin between second and third was so, so close. RSL jumps back into second after being third las week. They received one first place vote and a wide range of votes between second and fifth.
3. FC Dallas – Dallas narrowly missed second place but still jumps this week from fourth to third. Their 0-0 draw with RSL shows just how close the teams are both on the field and in our rankings. FCD got one first place vote and a wide array of votes from second to fourth. They got no votes from two of our writers.
4. New York Red Bulls – The vote between fourth place and fifth place was just as close as the vote for second and third. The Red Bulls got a late equalizer in Houston but still dropped in our rankings. They received five second place votes but the rest were fourths and fifths.
5. Philadelphia Union – The Union got a wonder goal from Carlos Ruiz to beat Chicago and nearly landed in fourth after not being ranked last week. They take the fifth spot with votes ranging from third to fifth. They also were not voted for by four writers.
Others receiving votes: Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, Columbus Crew, Houston Dynamo
