If you’re like me, you’re already sick of the whole Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault incident that continues to play out in the media. Nobody will ever know exactly what happened in that Milledgeville, GA bathroom, but the whole thing just further clarifies one fact – Ben Roethlisberger is an idiot. As much as I love him off the field, he’s become a complete joke oustide of it. If you’re keeping score, Big Ben is known around Pittsburgh as being the guy who walks out of restraunts without paying the bill, parties with college girls, and that whole motorycle thing didn’t help his image either.
Then there is Troy Polamalu. The all-world safety is known around “tahn” for randomly paying for patrons meals at restraunts, regularly attending church, and now…playing pick up football with random kids.
Check out the full story of Polamalu’s impromptu football game and QB skills along with a cell phone photo after the jump…
Apparently Polamalu was at his niece’s volleyball tournament somewhere in Arizona. There weren’t any media around and he was just minding his business watching the game. While at the concession stand, he was spotted by a young football fan and slowly got mobbed by kids seeking autographs or just wanting to catch a peek of the NFL star. That’s when it gets good. [AZ Central]:
And then Polamalu had a better idea. He gathered up some of the kids and headed outside for a game of pick-up football.
“My son disappeared for like 30 minutes, and when I went outside, I couldn’t believe what I saw,” Jeff said. “They were playing football on this narrow strip of pavement. Troy was diagramming plays for the kids. He was the designated quarterback.”
Imagine that.
“He told us a bunch of plays in the huddle. He told me to run a fly route,” Camden said. “And I caught it for a touchdown.”
Awesome. It’s always great to hear these kind of stories, but it’s especially nice to know there are some good guys out there in light of recent events. I’ve heard a few people say that it is practically impossible to resist a life of excess when you are an NFL star…that Roethlisberger is a victim of circumstance, so to speak. I think Troy Polamalu would disagree.
UPDATE: In an effort to get back into Superbowl form, the Steelers have re-signed a player from their last Superbowl victory. Welcome back, Larry Foote.
