Tuesday was a Good Day

By Sean Kennedy (@PhillyFastBreak)

In case you didn’t know, I was out of the country for a couple weeks recently, both getting married and scouting Italian international prospects to find draft-and-stash opportunities for the Colangelos (one of those two things is true). I don’t know whether there was some sort of Twilight Zone or Lost situation on the flight back over the Atlantic Ocean, but this is not the world of Sixers basketball that I’ve grown accustomed to over the years. Far too many things are going right.

First, the Sixers have told Ben Simmons he will be the first overall pick when Adam Silver begins calling names Thursday night. After working out for the team Tuesday morning, Simmons seems pretty excited about it, which officially dispels any of those hot take rumors about his not wanting to come to Philadelphia:

We also got our first look at the franchise’s frontcourt for the next decade (if healthy), with the added bonus that Joel Embiid has been cleared to participate in 5-on-5 scrimmaging, a great sign as he continues to work his way back from a second foot surgery. These two already seem like fast friends.

Finally, there’s a rumor floating around that Sixers sales representatives are telling people an announcement on Dario Saric is coming today. If true, this week could be shaping up to be the most impactful for the franchise in decades.

I’ll leave you with the fact that soon-to-be Sixers star Ben Simmons appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show last night, and The Roots played the Sixers theme song. Something tells me the team is actually getting a couple nationally televised games this year.
