Day 1 of the 2013 US Open has ended and there weren’t many surprises. All top-seeded players advanced to the second round without too much trouble.
There were a couple matches on the men’s singles side that went all the way to five sets and those matches were the most interesting ones of US Open Day 1. American Sloane Stephens (15th seed) had the most trouble in the women’s singles first round against Mandy Minella but was able to overcome 0-1 set deficit and win the match 2-1 by winning 3rd set tiebreak (7-5).
Also, former World No.1 Venus Williams was able to beat Kirsten Flipkens (12th seed) in straight sets.
