USA Beats Ecuador To Clinch COPA America Semi-Final Spot

NHL playoffs boosted and marred by physical play

What a game it was between USA and Ecuador as they battled it out for a full 90 minutes in an elimination game. But team USA would prevail and for the first time since 1995 advance to the semi-finals. It was a rather chirpy game for soccer as it was filled with yellow cards and ejections on both sides of the field.

Clint Dempsey got the scoring going for team USA in the 22nd minute. As Jermaine Jones Centered the ball and Dempsey tapped it in with the header to give USA the early 1-0 lead. It was a great goal as whole team had something to do with it.

USA’s second and game winning goal came from Gyasi Zardes. As he got a perfect feed from Clint Dempsey and was able to tap it home to make it 2-0.

But all good things must come to an end as USA’s shutout streak was demolished when Ecuador put all the pressure on and managed to score a goal.

All is good with this win but we will be without 3 key players for our semi-final. Jermaine Jones was given the red card for hands to the face. This was just bad self control for Jones as he could have just walked away, but bad judgment made it so he cannot play in Tuesday’s game.

Team USA will also be without Bobby Wood and Alejandro Bedoya as they will not be able to play because of yellow card accumulation.

Team USA will have some time off now as they will next play on Tuesday against the winner of Argentina and Venezuela. That game will be played this Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
