PHILADELPHIA — Chris VandeVelde scored his first goal in 55 games on Thursday.
And that wasn’t even the most exciting thing to happen to him over a 36-hour span.
On Wednesday morning, VandeVelde and his wife, Olivia, welcomed the newest member of their family, Larkin VandeVelde. It’s the family’s second child.
“It’s been pretty hectic but it’s been a lot of fun,” VandeVelde said after the team’s 4-3 overtime win over Detroit. “Not a whole lot of sleep but obviously worth it. To come out here and score one for her, you can’t write that.”
What will he do with that puck? Perhaps it’ll go on Larkin’s dresser: “Yeah, if she wants it. I’ll definitely keep that one, pretty special.”
VandeVelde has had a rough go as of late with points coming sparingly for him, but this certainly has been a memorable few days and well-deserved, for that matter.
