As the title of this article states, Clemson demolished the BC Eagles in essentially every aspect of this game to carry out a 56-10 blowout victory.
A four passing touchdown performance for QB Deshaun Watson lit the spark underneath the Tigers, as they cruised to a easy victory at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Watson, who is a very high draft prospect for the NFL this year if he decides to go (most likely he will), made a great film performance once again as scouts will have a field day watching Watson terrorize the Eagles in Clemson fashion.
Along with Watson’s performance, RB Wayne Gallman was another threat for the Eagles as he ran wild for 109 yards and a score on only 9 carries, which if you think about, isn’t that many carries to get 109 yards. Multiple players got opportunities to run over Boston College like Tavien Foster, Tyshon Dye and Adam Choice. On the receiving end, true sophomore wide receiver Deon Cain led all receivers with 68 yards on 3 receptions and 2 touchdowns to help Watson with the air attack. Along with Cain, Jordan Leggett and Mike Williams each got a touchdown pass and combined for 125 yards.
The Eagles on the other hand couldn’t get a rhythm going, as 10 points through the entire game was better than zero but Clemson was just the better team in all aspects of the game. Quarterback Patrick Towles threw for a mere 91 yards for 11/22 completions and a score to senior fullback Bobby Wolford, who has been doing well in the new offense. Sophomore tight end Tommy Sweeney led the receivers for Boston College with 48 yards and tried to continue getting down the field but couldn’t get it done.
For the defense, which received high praise last year and has been struggling early on this year, the madness continues with miscommunication and being outplayed by some of the best college football athletes in the nation. But not to be a negative Nelly here, there were some positive things about BC and prospects for the future. Junior defensive end Harold Landry once again continues the raid of sacks this year as he tallied a sack against Clemson to bring his count up to 6.5 on the year. Not only did he sack Deshaun Watson, Landry deflected a pass and forced a fumble on his end. In total statistics for the junior defensive end, Landry has 21 total tackles (12 solo), 4 forced fumbles and a deflected pass to go along with his 6.5 sacks on the year.
Addazio is on the hot seat as BC enters a bye week next Saturday and questions are arising in boatloads which could ultimately lead to a coaching change in the coming weeks. I do not want to be foreshadowing the future of BC here, but you have to wonder, could a coaching change lead to better opportunities?
