Belichick summed it all up in his opening statement last night by saying “Just overall we obviously didn’t do anything well enough today.” This is just a very hard loss to get over, just because the Eagles are not good. There was just to many mistakes on both offence and defense we did not deserve to win. I thought there was a very little chance the Patriots were going to tie the game on that final drive but nobody could catch the ball.
It was all good until the drop kick, I love the decision to attempt the drop kick and that is not why we lost but it all went downhill from there. When asked about the thinking of the onside kick Belichick said “I think everything we did, we’re trying to do what we think is best”.
The blocked punt returned for a touchdown was also a big blow to the Patriots just before the half. All we had to do was get the punt off and we would go to half time with the lead. Nope, unfortunately that would not be the case and we would go to the half all tied up at 14. Belichick had this to say about the blocked punt “We blew it, just didn’t block it properly obviously. Nothing we hadn’t seen before, just didn’t execute it well.”
After half time the Patriots would give up 3 unanswered touchdowns and basically ripped my heart out as it was just painful to watch. But in typical Patriots fashion they started to make a comeback getting 2 touchdowns late in the 4th quarter. But on the final drive with a chance to tie the game the Patriots failed to succeed and the Eagles would go on to win.
This was an all around bad game by Brady and the offence. Nobody could catch the ball. Chandler and Amendola both had big drops late in the 4th quarter which would have extended the drive. Brady finished the day with 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions (One was a 100 yard pick 6), 312 yards, and a rushing touchdown.
Tom Brady had this to say about his interceptions: “The first interception was bad quarterbacking. The team trusts you to put the ball in your hands and make good decisions with it, and that was a terrible decision. So it’s unfortunate because those cost you the game, and I’ve got to do a better job.”
The Patriots will now take the trip to Texas where they will play the Texans on NBC’s Sunday Night Football next week. Let’s just hope for a better game and a Patriots win.
