What does the Greg Jennings signing mean in Miami?

After pulling a very irritating April fools prank as to where he might be signing, Greg Jennings has finally made a decision and will be joining the Miami Dolphins.

First things first, Mike Tannebaum is not playing games. Tannenbaum has been bold and decisive this off season making a variety of moves that make it pretty clear he did not feel the Dolphins roster was strong enough to compete.

The Dolphins sign Jennings to a financially friendly 2 year 8 million dollar contract hoping Jennings will provide leadership to a very young but talented Dolphins WR group.

Jennings caught 67% of passes on which he was targeted over last 2 seasons (Mike Wallace caught 56%).

The Dolphins desperately needed a 3rd wide out option as Mike Clay highlighted on twitter Dolphins 3rd WR was on the field for 80% of Miami’s passing play 4th most in the NFL. Jennings can also help in the red zone as he is no stranger in the red area with 63 career touchdowns. (Playing with Favre and Rodgers does help)

Jennings both familiar with Miami’s offensive scheme and head coach Joe Philbin (Green Bay connection), obviously isn’t the same player he was in Green Bay but was still productive in his time in Minnesota despite inconsistency at the quarterback position.

Jennings is a low to no risk signing who provides Miami with an added boost on the field, a presences in the locker-room, and even potentially gives Miami some extra flexibility with the 14th overall pick.

Jennings will likely be the 3rd-4th option in the Dolphins receiving game after Landry, Stills and tight end Jordan Cameron.

Of course for me, Jennings will always be famous for one of the greatest YouTube video’s ever:
