Tony Romo will take the field for the first time this preseason, but expect him to play very sparingly. Chaz Green will continue to get a look at LT, because Tyron Smith is out with the neck stinger.
We know Ezekiel Elliott will not play, which is more of a healthy scratch. I expect Zeke to get a series or so next week.
Here’s what I’m going to watch tonight:
The defense. I want to see how this group looks tonight early on, and I want to see if we are going to have more troubles getting to the QB. Another anemic pass rush could have the Cowboys working out more players. I want to see how we’re looking at the linebacker as well. Some of these young corners have a chance to make the team, and some are running out of time.
Chaz Green. As I mentioned earlier, he’ll get the start, and he’ll need to have a better outing tonight. He’ll have his hands full early on, but we also need to see how he looks with extended time. He was terrible last week, so if we get another dose of that, then the Cowboys will probably be working out tackles soon. He’s a 3rd round pick, so the expectations are high. He needs to play better tonight, maul some people.
Andy Jones. This is a game where he needs to get back on the stat sheet with some catches and no more drops. Jones hard work in training camp took a step back last week, but he’ll have the chance to get back on track tonight. If we get another dud, then he’ll have a hard time making the team.
Benson Mayowa. I’m not sure how much if anything we’ll see from Benson, but I’d like to see some plays where he brings some pressure.
Dak Prescott. I want to see if we’ll see another game of cool, calm, and collected or will we all come back to earth if he has a sub-average game? If he nails it again, we’re on to something here and that is what I am hoping for. The future could be good here in Dallas in a post-Romo era, but we’ll see.
Darius Jackson. I want to see a homerun play from Jackson, just knock it out the park and clinch a roster spot. He played good last week, but he’ll need to be better than good to assure a 53 man roster spot.
