Who Should The Celtics Go For In Free Agency?

The Celtics have a very reliable GM in Danny Ainge and they have lots of interesting opportunities for other teams to look into (8 2016 draft picks, 4 2015 draft picks). Here are realistic ideas for the Celtics.

Greg Monroe F/C Detroit Pistons-  2014-2015 Season (15.2 PPG  10.2 RPG)

Monroe had a stellar year despite splitting time with fellow big man Andre Drummond. Drummond is known for grabbing the boards (13.5 RPG) but Monroe had much more success on the offensive side of the ball and surprisingly assists (2.1 APG). At 6’11 and 250 pounds, he provides toughness and size to complement with Zeller and Olynyk if they remain on the team if they aren’t included in free agent deals. The Celtics can give the Pistons a very lucrative deal for Monroe if all things play out. I like Monroe a lot and is underrated in many ways. Monroe is only 25 and has a lot left in the tank for such a versatile big man. Here is a possible trade offer from the Celtics.

Celtics- Send Jared Sullinger or Brandon Bass and Chris Babb to Pistons with a 2015 second round pick and 2016 1st round pick.

Pistons- Send Greg Monroe to Celtics with a 2016 2nd round pick

Demarcus Cousins C Sacramento Kings- 2014-2015 Season (24.2 PPG  12.7 RPG)

Landing Cousins is certainly a long shot. His production over his career thus far is an indicator that he is something special. One thing which Cousins needs to do is control his temper. Temper flares and other unneeded fouls can lead you down a path of regret and fines. His ridiculous wingspan and his power is easily a plus for the needy Celtics and Cousins could increase production in Zeller and the other forwards. His motivation in scoring and rebounding can reflect positively off the other guys. Here is a potential scenario for landing Cousins.

Celtics- Send Brandon Bass, Jonas Jerebko, Gerald Wallace (giant contract issue) and 2015 1st round, 2016 1st and 2 round picks to Kings.

Kings- Send Demarcus Cousins to Celtics

Tobias Harris SF/PF Orlando Magic- 2014-15 Season (17.5 PPG, 6.3 RPG)

Harris out of anyone is the most realistic option for the Celtics. His ability to stretch the floor and score from basically anywhere is a great asset for the Celtics. His all around performances were closely monitored and would be a great fit for the Celtics. At 6’9 and 235 pounds and only 22, Harris is young and like Monroe, has a lot in the tank.  Here is a trade that could happen to get Harris.

Celtics- Send Brandon Bass, Phil Pressey and a 2016 1st round pick to Orlando

Magic- Send Tobias Harris and a 2016 2nd round pick to the Celtics
