The Dolphins lost Lamar Miller to free agency and then lost out on C.J. Anderson when the Broncos matched the teams offer. The Dolphins hosted Chris Johnson but Johnson opted to re-sign with the Arizona Cardinals. Also lost out on James Starks but they made the right decision not to pursue him.
The Dolphins currently have Jay Ajayi and Damien Williams on their roster as the teams one and two runners. Miami will need to add another back prior to the start of training camp if not OTA’s and mini-camp. The question is where will they look?
Free agency has not provided the Dolphins a suitable replacement and while Arian Foster is still available, his injury history has made him a target of no one. The draft of course is a possibility but early? Only Ezekiel Elliot is graded as a first round talent and maybe even a 2nd round talent. Elliot likely will not fall to Miami at 13. In fact, the Eagles who traded with the Dolphins, swapping first round spots is in need of a game changing runner. To be honest, I dont think Elliot will be there at 13 but you never know. Like last year, the Dolphins didn’t know that Devante Parker would be there when they picked in last year’s draft.
If the Dolphins are looking to trade for a running back the plot will be thick. Who Miami would be willing to give up a draft pick for, at any level would be interesting to say the least. In fact, the Dolphins best option would be to simply stay put and see what the future holds. There are some options but will they take the chance to trade for one? The Dolphins should draft a RB unless they can get a legitimate starter and a reasonable deal.
