Tackle Willie Colon signed a 5-year, $29 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers today, per the Post-Gazette.
I, like many others, had written Colon off as going elsewhere this offseason. He’s had a rough last couple of years with the team battling injuries, but the team is confident enough in him to give him a long-term deal. As it stands now, he could play either tackle position. If the team keeps 36 year old Flozell Adams, Colon would be the quicker of the two and better suited for LT. Adams could be cut, however, and Colon would return to his natural position of RT.
The P-G also notes that Colon turned down an additional $3 million from the Chicago Bears to stay in Pittsburgh, saying that his “happiness means more to me.” That’s always nice to read.
