We know DeMarcus Ware is closing- in on the Cowboys all-time sack record, which he’ll break, and he’s well on his way to possibly break the single season sack record held by Michael Strahan. Another proud milestone could happen this Sunday against the Seahawks and it revolves around Jason Witten.
During the offseason, I wrote an article about how Witten is quietly putting up Hall of Fame numbers. Witten (557) is just 6 catches away from passing Hall of Fame tight end Ozzie Newsome (662). By passing Newsome, Witten would move into 3rd place in receptions amongst tight ends. Witten will have Shannon Sharpe (815) and Tony Gonzalez (1104) in front of him. Catching Sharpe come come in another season and a half; however, catching Gonzalez will be another thing. Witten recently signed a 5yr-deal that will take him to 2017.
So, as we celebrate our newest Ring of Honor inductees: Drew Pearson, Charles Haley, and Larry Allen; lets watch the great Jason Witten continue to write history and make his mark on the game. One day, Witten’s name will undoubtedly grace the Cowboys Ring of Honor and we can all say we saw him play at a high level.
