Wyoming Cowboys ain’t no Joke, Boise State best be ready.

Last year Boise State went to Laramie and made the Wyoming Cowboys look like a DII school and Know they haven’t forgotten that.  This is not last year’s team and the Broncos must be ready!

My first thoughts this year about Wyoming came when I meet the lovely Cowboy faithful above at the Toledo game. They came to support their fellow MWC team Boise State as the next day Wyoming took on Bowling Green just 20 miles south of Toledo. Note to Bronco Nation Tail gates you see those folks above, give them a drink on me send bill here, and tell them DarthProphet says hello , no doubt they will be attending treat them well I know you will. If any of you see them there check to see if they are still wearing the Blue and Orange beads we gave them in Toledo.

Wyoming is a different animal this year with a balance running attack and a capable passer.

Alvester Alexander has been steady rushing for 583 yards and 5 TD’s averaging 4.6 yards a carry while Ghaali Muhammad and Brandon Miller have filled in has provided another 668 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. While adding those stats together one might not think Wyoming isn’t much a threat to run until you add in TD maker Brett Smith Wyoming’s do it all QB as he’s rushed for 518 yards and 10 rushing TD’s , When you put it all together Wyoming has amassed 1883 yards rushing 19 TD’s averaging 4.9 yards a carry no small accomplishment.

Brett Smith will challenge the Bronco Defense with his arm as well as he has thrown for 2226 yard and 15 TD’s add in his 10 rushing TD’s and you can see this guy can produce points. Giving up only 5 interceptions this year he is also very stingy with the ball. At 6’3” Smith easily can see over the line in front of him allowing for more passing lanes his 60.5% competition percentage isn’t bad, but shows he either misses a lot or his WR drop a lot of balls, let’s hope it’s a combination but considering his low number of int’s I’m betting it’s drops.

Wyoming has lost every big game they’ve been in this year, and their two biggest were at home with a 7-3 recorded their only road loss came @ Utah State the week after playing a close game @ home against then ranked #9 Nebraska.. Wyoming’s only other was a 11 point defeat to TCU and the game was a lot closer than the score would indicate, they followed that loss up with a win @ Air Force and home against New Mexico.

With games left against Boise State and Colorado Wyoming should certainly finish 8-4 and play themselves in to a nice bowl, but make no mistake about it there is nothing more than they would like to do then put a Blue Turf win in their bonnet and considering the road recorded and the efforts they put in all their games they will come to play and after watching TCU’s victory will believe they have a shot, and there is nothing scary then a team that is much improved that believes.

Good news for the Broncos is many pieces to the Bronco team is healing, Billy Winn looked like Billy Winn against SDSU hopefully some of the legs will be healed up in the defensive back field and D.J. Harper should be good to go giving the Bronco’s their full back field for the first time in 2 weeks.

Hout looks like he’s picked up his game these last two games and should have a major impact and Tevis has just been Tevis menacing and all over the field. Look for Iloka to introduce Mr. Smith to the Blue Turf hard a few times. Kellen should have his way with the Cowboy defense as the Cowboys haven’t really faced the kind of Pocket pin point passer this year.

I look for the game to be close for much of the first half but sometime late in the second quarter Boise will pull away and open the second half like they general do with a kill shot, final score prediction Boise 45 Cowboys 17
