Your Morning Dump… Where 50/50 is unacceptable to Rondo

Rondo

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

“Yes, I do find that (unacceptable),” Rondo said of a 50-50 split. “We’ve already gone down more than 4 percent from 57. That’s a $400 million cutback that we’ve already agreed to give back. I mean, (performing) artists don’t give up 50 percent of their revenues. There’s no business model for what they want us to do.”

[…] Decertification — an extreme measure that appears to be back on the table for players — is an option Rondo would consider.

“If I had to, yes,” he said of decertifying.

“It’s a possibility with the way things are looking. But it’s day by day in this situation. You really don’t know what’s going to happen next.

“I’ve read a couple of the comments about how the players aren’t unified, but I think we’re doing a pretty good job of sticking together. Guys are bored. They’re anxious to play.”

Herald: Rajon Rondo won't give NBA pass

I'm really not sure what else I can say about the lockout.

Decertification, to quickly explain for those who don't know, means there's no union to lock out.  It tosses collective bargaining out the window and opens the NBA up to lawsuits… which is the threat behind the tactic.

The first thing to happen after a decertification will probably be an anti-trust lawsuit against the NBA.  It's aimed at getting the league's full financial numbers out in the open.  From there, if it progresses this far, the players would use those numbers to start negotiating from scratch.

It's an absolutely nuclear option because it basically pushes everything back to square one.  Actually past that.  Will it come to that over the last 2%?  I hope not, but it would kind of fit with the rest of the stupidity we've seen.  Talks resume at 4pm… so we'll see.

You can go here read more of my take on players talking decertification, including why it's also part of a union revolt
