2022 College Football National Championship Favorites
Alabama has won the College Football Playoff National Championship four times in the past decade. It lost to Georgia in last season’s CFP National Championship Game, but it is the favorite to make amends this time around.

National Championship Winner
Alabama deserves its status as the clear favorite to win the National Championship. It has been the strongest program in the business over the past decade, and it reached the national title game last season. Key players are returning, including the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, QB Bryce Young, and the depth chart has improved considerably in the transfer portal.
However, odds of just +200 do not look particularly appealing. There is a lot more value to be had in betting on Ohio State at +400. The Buckeyes’ offense looks terrific, led by Heisman favorite C.J. Stroud, All-American running TreVeyon Henderson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the best receiver in college football.
There are question marks over the defense, but coordinator Jim Knowles has rebuilt it this off-season, and it should be stouter in 2022. There are lots of tough veterans returning, including Matthew Jones, Taron Vincent, Jerron Cage, Cam Brown, Josh Proctor, Tanner McCallister, and Noah Ruggles, and this could be the year that OSU goes all the way.
ACC Conference Winner
Clemson’s six-year reign as ACC Conference champion came to an unceremonious end when they failed to reach the championship game last season. However, the Tigers should come roaring back in 2022.
They are unlikely to win the National Championship following offseason upheaval. Head coach Dabo Swinney lost both top coordinators, pushing unproven coaches into the roles. Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei has not yet lived up to his reputation either, so there are question marks over this team, but they should be too strong for the conference rivals.
SEC Conference Winner
The Alabama Crimson Tide will aim for a third consecutive SEC Conference Championship in 2022. They head into the new season as red-hot favorites for the National Championship, and they are priced at just -125 to win the SEC.
AU lost a lot of big players in the NFL Draft, but reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young is back. He will need to shoulder a lot of responsibility in the absence of Jameson Williams and John Metchie, but he looks up to the task. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs looks like an exciting talent.
Linebacker Will Anderson Jr. is also returning after he led college football for sacks and TFLs last year. Bama will still be licking its wounds following its CFP National Championship Game, but head coach Nick Saban and the players can use that as fuel for 2022. They should get the better of Georgia and Texas A&M and win the SEC.
Big Ten Conference Winner
Ohio State is priced at just -250 to win the Big Ten this year. That is a lot of juice, but it is still worth the squeeze, as none of its conference rivals come close to matching the quality that lies within OSU’s ranks.
The Buckeyes have won the Big Ten Championship in four of the last five years, and last season could be viewed as an aberration. They were superb when winning the Rose Bowl, and they look well-placed to return to the ascendancy in the Big Ten.
Big 12 Conference Winner
Most college football picks have declared that the Sooners will justify their status as favorites by winning the Big 12 this year. Their closest contenders appear to be Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and TCU. Very few college football picks have even mentioned the Kansas State Wildcats.
However, KSU looks like a very interesting sleeper bet at +1800 to win the Big 12. All-purpose running back Deuce Vaughn will lead the charge, having racked up 1,872 combined rushing and receiving yards and 22 touchdowns last season. The addition of Adrian Martinez from Nebraska also looks intriguing.
The offense is an unknown quantity, but a very stingy defense is returning. It allowed just 5.4 yards per snap last season, and 18 points per game in its final seven-game stretch. Five starters are returning, including Felix Anudike-Uzomah. If defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman can rebuild the secondary effectively, and if Martinez hits the ground running, KSU could spring a surprise.
Pac-12 Conference Winner
USC is the favorite to win the Pac-12, but Utah is the best team in this conference and it should prevail in 2022. The Utes made a sluggish start last season, but they rallied to end with a 10-4 record to win the Pac-12. They also gave Ohio State a tough battle in the Rose Bowl, despite missing many players.
QB Cameron Rising was on fire towards the end of his sophomore season, and he should maintain his upward curve. Star back Tavion Thomas returns, the revamped defense looks stout, and Utah looks like an interesting long-shot for the College Football Playoff. You will not find it listed in many college football picks, as the Utes are +8000 outsiders, but they could make a mockery of those odds.
What are College Football Picks?
