GuruQB’s 2016 Mock Draft

Untitled

Just about everybody has done a mock draft, so why not us? Yes, we only blog about quarterbacks, but dammit, I want to do a mock draft too!

I based all my picks on team needs, which means I’ll probably get only the first two picks right, and that’s it. But that’s the fun of mock drafts- you do them, then read about how off you were or how right you would have been had some GM just listened to you.

With that, here we go!

LA- Jared Goff, QB

Still think the Rams should go Wentz, but it seems they are locked into Goff. Cal kid stays home.

Phi- Carson Wentz, QB

No brainer here. You don’t trade away all these picks for anybody else but a QB.

SD- Deforest Buckner, DE

Think the Bolts should take Tunsill, but it seems they’ve got their eyes on Buckner.

Dal- Jalen Ramsey, DB

Dallas sits still and lands the best defensive player on the board.

Jack- Myles Jack, LB

Jags have the offense, now they build their defense and land the best LB in the draft.

Balt- Joey Bosa, DE

The Ravens need to get younger at the book ends, and Bosa fills an immediate need.

SF- Laremy Tunsill, OL

49ers land a franchise right tackle to protect whoever their QB is next season.

Cle- Ronnie Stanley, OL

Cleveland will now have a pair of franchise tackles on the line with Stanley and Joe Thomas.

TB- Vernon Hargreaves III

Tampa continues to buildup their defense, taking the best cover corner in the draft.

NYG- Jack Conklin, OL

The Giants rarely take sexy picks, often choosing blue collar players instead. Conklin is a great pickup here. A big kid and a true mauler. New York is going to love this kid.

Chi- Shaq Lawson, DE

The Bears need a pass rusher and Lawson fills the need.

NO- Sheldon Rankins, DT

Saints build up their defensive line by adding Rankins, who is shooting up the board.

Mia- Ezekiel Elliott, RB

Elliott falls right into the hands of the running back needy Miami Dolphins.

Oak- A’Shawn Robinson, DT

Raiders continue their rebirth as a franchise, going interior defense with their first pick.

Tenn- Taylor Decker, OL

The Titans move back 14 picks, and still get offensive line help to protect Mariota. This is a great draft for the Titans.

Det- Reggie Ragland, LB

Could go DT here, but Ragland is too good to pass up on.

Atl- Laquon Treadwell, WR

My first stunner. Atlanta will probably go defense, but if I’m the Falcons and Treadwell is available, I take him without regrets. Imagine him and Julio Jones playing together for the next 5 years? Yes please!

Ind- Darron Lee, LB

The Colts need defensive help, and Lee is a solid pickup at this point in the draft.

Buff- Noah Spence, DE

Spence slips because of prior drug issues, and falls right into Buffalo’s lap, replacing a departed Mario Williams as an edge pass rusher.

NYJ- Jarran Reed, DT

The Jets have lost stability on the defensive line, and could lose Wilkerson too. Reed and last year’s 1st rounder, Leonard Williams, give the Jets something to build on.

Wash- Corey Coleman, WR

My second surprise. The Redskins need WR help. Garcon is a possession WR and Desean Jackson battled injuries all of last season. They need another weapon for Kirk Cousins, and Coleman is that guy.

Hou- Michael Thomas, WR

An all-around WR, Thomas would take some defensive pressure off of DeAndre Hopkins. He’s a more refined route runner and a solid pickup here.

Minn- Josh Doctson, WR

The Vikings desperately need receiver help. Prior to his injury, Doctson was being touted as the best WR in the draft, and now he falls to Minnesota late in the 1st round.

Cinn- Karl Joseph, S

The Bengals lost Reggie Nelson to free agency, and they find his replacement in the draft in Joseph.

Pitt- Eli Apple, CB

Was debating between DT, CB, and WR, but the bottom line is that the Steelers need secondary help, and Apple fills an immediate need.

Sea- Ryan Kelly, C

The Seahawks lost Unger a year ago in a trade with the Saints. Ryan Kelly would become a franchise center in Seattle, fixing the loss of Unger.

GB- Andrew Billings, DT

The Packers lost BJ Raji to retirement, and replace him with Billings from Baylor. Good pick here.

KC- Leonard Floyd, LB

The Chiefs lost Justin Houston to a knee injury that could cost him a good chunk of the 2016 season. Floyd could fill in for Houston this year as an outside linebacker.

ARZ- Paxton Lynch, QB

Arizona is solid all around, so now is the best time to steal a young QB and groom him.

Car- Kevin Dodd, DE

The Panthers need edge pass rush help after Jared Allen announced his retirement.

Den- Hunter Henry, TE

The Broncos could go a number of ways, but their biggest need is at the tight end position. They did recently sign former Houston Texan Garrett Graham, but Henry is the best TE in this draft, and a gift to the defending champs with the final pick in the first round.

So there it is. My mock draft. Let’s see how many I get wrong now. LOL. Enjoy draft day everybody!
