Andrew Cashner: Wrigley Field is a “Dump”

It’s safe to say people love Wrigley Field.  Seriously, people absolutely love it…they name their pets after it and their kids after the streets surrounding the century-old stadium.

Andrew Cashner is not one of those people.

“It’s bad.  Here (at Petco), we have one of the nicest weight rooms in all of baseball, a big locker room and things are spaced out. You go about your business and make the most out of what you need to get out of your day,” the San Diego Padres pitcher said of Wrigley Field.  “We’re spoiled here. We have some of the best facilities in baseball.  And Wrigley (Field), it’s a dump.”

It remains to be seen what the response is to Cashner’s comments, but, hopefully, he doesn’t face the backlash former Chicago White Sox skipper Ozzie Guillen received after addressing the historic stadium’s rat infestation?

“You are going to take batting practice and the rats look bigger than a pig out (under the right-field bleachers),” Guillen told reporters back in 2008.  “I think the rats out there are lifting weights.”

But, as it turns out, Cashner, who played for the Chicago Cubs for parts of two seasons, and Guillen aren’t alone.  Also bashing the ballpark (sort of)…current Cubs outfielder Ryan Kalish.  Yikes.

“Wrigley is awesome, but it’s outdated for the players,” Kalish added.  “We do the best with what we have.”

And if you’ve seen the video team owner Tom Ricketts put out earlier in the week…you know exactly what Kalish is talking about.
