Friday 5: Brett Raymer

Last year at this time, the baseball blogosphere was all abuzz with the Miami Marlins new digs and why not, it had it all…a championship-caliber team, an amazing techni-color jumping fish in the outfield and a gigantic fish tank behind home plate.

A year later, I still can’t get over how colossal of a failure the whole venture was and, of course, those fish tanks.

Of course, I had to ask Brett Raymer, COO of Acrylic Tank Manufacturing and star of the hit Animal Planet show “Tanked” what he thought of the monstrosity in Miami and, naturally, his beloved New York Yankees.

HOVG: First off, I’ve gotta ask you your thoughts on the fish tanks behind home plate at Marlins Park. I know you didn’t build it, but, it does look pretty cool…what do you think?

RAYMER: I had heard about them considering building it.  It seemed like a good feature to help get people to the park.

HOVG: Do the tanks run the risk of being destroyed if they get hit just right?

RAYMER: I’m sure they were made to withstand the baseball. Acrylic is thick and actually bulletproof, so I am sure they are okay.

HOVG: Okay, enough about the Marlins. I know you’re a diehard Yankees fan…have you ever done a Bronx Bombers-themed fish tank? If not, is this something that you would be interested in trying to build?

RAYMER: We would love to do a Yankees-themed tank, but we would need permission.

HOVG: You done many celebrity fish tanks.  What can you tell me about the fish tank you designed for Yankees legend Jorge Posada?

RAYMER: We did a flat back hex…about 400 gallons with a coral insert with custom cabinets to match.

HOVG: The new season of “Tanked” is underway…what can we expect from you and your partner-in-crime, brother-in-law Wayde?

RAYMER: You can expect crazy builds, amazing fish, lots of pranks and lots of fun!

You can check out Brett Raymer and the gang of “Tanked” Friday nights on Animal Planet.  He is also active on Twitter, give him a follow at @BrettRaymer.
