NFL executive on 49ers’ Chip Kelly: ‘He just keeps running the same s*** and it isn’t fooling anybody’

Arizona Cardinals v San Francisco 49ers

Get ready—San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly leaving the NFL and rejoining the Oregon Ducks is about to be one of the hottest storylines of the holiday season.

With college teams about to put out feelers for new coaches and Kelly’s 49ers bumbling about, it’s only natural one or two rumors pop up.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, coaches and executives continue to poke fun at Kelly. One executive even dropped this gem of a quote and hinted at Kelly’s retreating back to college:

“He just keeps running the same shit and it isn’t fooling anybody,” one NFL executive said. “Do you think they could bring him back to Oregon?”

Ouch, though criticism of Kelly is more than justified. His 49ers have dropped five games in a row to sit at 1-5. Blaine Gabbert only completed 58 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and six interceptions before getting yanked in favor of Colin Kaepernick—who has a 44.8 completion percentage and one score so far. Running back Carlos Hyde is the lone bright spot with six scores, but he’s averaging less than four yards per carry.

Really, Kelly is like any other NFL coach—he’s going to do what got him there until it doesn’t work and it’s time to leave the pro game. Some coaches (coughGusBradleyJeffFishercough) simply have a much, much longer leash. Kelly doesn’t have the most talented roster, but he’s different from other guys in that he entered the league praised as an innovator who would change the game, or at least be flexible enough to build a contender.

Apparently not, and now the criticism and rumblings about his going back to college have only started.
